Good Earthkeeping - Energy Conservation

energy_centerAir conditioning systems in South Florida are typically big energy users. With that in mind, we have made use of a very energy efficient chilled water loop for our air conditioning. With this system water is chilled at our central energy plant and then circulated in insulated pipes throughout our buildings. Fan units are then used in guest rooms and public spaces to circulate the air which has been cooled by the chilled water. In addition to this, we utilize a computerized energy management system which allows us to program cooling time and temperatures in all public areas, including restaurants and meeting rooms.

We have also been increasing the use of high efficiency lighting, which is up to 75% more efficient than comparable incandescent, lasting up to eight times as long. These bulbs are used in 85% of our landscape lighting, 95% of our 24/7 lighting and 70% of the lighting in our service areas. We will continue to increase this type of lighting throughout the resort. Additionally, all of our landscape lighting is on a timer or photo sensor systems.

Electrical equipment can be another big user of electricity. Therefore, before we purchase new equipment we verify it has an Energy Star rating. Recent examples include: in room televisions, office computers, ice machines and copiers.
